The German Shepherd was originally bred in Germany for working sheep. The breed is fairly new dating back to 1899. Famous for their intelligence the German Shepherd is typically used by the police and military for scent work, including rescue situations, drug/explosive detection and as guide dogs. They are very loyal, obedient and thrive on a job or challenge.
