The red Squirrel is the native species of Britain. With numbers declining since the 1950’s it is estimated that there are around 140,000 individuals. The squirrel makes its home in a dray and eats seeds, nuts, fungus, bark, shoots and flowers. There is an ongoing conservation program to strengthen the red squirrel population.
It is said that the squirrel symbolises renewal, adaptation, change and playfulness.
