For centuries horses have been much loved companions of humans. They are by nature gentle and caring often being used as therapy animals. The oldest horse known was ‘Old Billy’ who died in 1822 at 62 years of age. In the 1840s a horse named Sampson became the tallest horse known to this day at 219cms (21.25 hands).
Throughout many cultures the horse is seen as a spiritual being. They are said to symbolise strength, courage, freedom and confidence.
